A node is a coordinate in the graph.
It is the smallest durable unit that changes the next read. One claim, one distinction, one mechanism, one pressure point in the graph. If the unit does that work, it has earned its file. If it does not, no amount of procedure makes it real.
The procedure exists to protect the unit. It catches privacy failures, dangling edges, lazy prose, source-spine narration, and claims the graph has already absorbed. It keeps the workshop from filling with pretty duplicates. It earns its cost only when it helps the node land cleaner than instinct would have landed it.
Overthinking begins when the ritual starts optimizing for visible seriousness. More passes, more provenance, more steel, more ceremony. Sometimes that is the right cost. Some claims are large enough or unstable enough to need a telescope. Most are smaller. A small claim handled cleanly should stay small.
The test is direct. Does this piece change the graph's future motion? Can another node point to it instead of re-explaining the move? Does it leave a sharper edge than existed before? If yes, it is a node. If no, it is residue.
This matters more as the graph matures. A dense graph does not need every addition to carry its whole world. It needs exact pieces with clean edges. The surrounding structure supplies the depth. The node supplies the new coordinate.
Nodes are just nodes. That is their dignity.
